AGRICULTURAL SHOW

The HORTICULTURE SECTION of OUR SHOW needs you to enter whatever you grow in a pot, garden or greenhouse. Each year everyone is  amazed at all the bright and beautiful entries which make such a great part of the Annual show but it needs you to enter to make it happen.

You might even win one of our trophies or a prize from one of our supporters and for the exhibitor who gains most points in the horticultural Section there is the award of the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal.

I would like to thank all the schools and preschool groups that enter the Horticulture section – what a great job they are doing to involve their pupils with growing and nurturing plants. I am so hoping that even more find the time to show us what they are doing in the classroom and outside it.  The Junior section is free to enter. The PETER KNOWLES TROPHY for group environmental work has become an important part of the Horticulture Section.  It is open to any group involved with young people (2 to 16 years) who can put on an exhibition of their Growing and Environmental work.  The inscribed trophy trowel will be for keeps every year and there will also be a prize of £20 for the group.

The Floral Art Section is always colourful and I am always amazed at the flair of the exhibitors to interpret the ideas.  I hope we see even more exhibits this year – There is also now a category for all ages to enter a miniature garden so it is a lovely chance for members of  the family to work together . Michelle of “So Plants” in Longridge is sponsoring this. The children also have the opportunity to enter their “Insect home made from recycled materials” this year in the Junior section which they can let their imaginations run riot. I am also looking forward to seeing a magical garden – Plus anyone of all ages will get the chance to pot up a plant and make a crafty plant tag and the best thing of all you get to take it home for free.”

There is an additional class in the fruit and vegetables section for an ugly vegetable. I am looking forward to seeing what entries that produces.

Adults enter for the  price of an advance ticket which this year is still £6 – this entitles you to come to the show and enter as many classes in the Horticulture Section as you wish.  Children  can enter the horticulture section for free and I can let over 12`s have an advance entry ticket for £3.
